The
2009 Abraham Lincoln Commemorative Silver Dollar went on sale at the US Mint February 12, 2009. It was widely expected to be a popular offering. The maximum authorized mintage for the coin was 500,000, of which 50,000 coins would be reserved for a special set to be released at a later date. It's also possible that an additional 50,000 coins may be reserved for the 2009 American Legacy Collection. This collection has not yet been announced, but it has been offered for the past several years and typically includes proof versions of Commemorative Silver Dollars issued during the year.
With potentially only 400,000 coins available for individual ordering options, many are expecting a sell out. The total percentage of votes in favor of one of the sell out options was 74%. The most people voted that the coins would sell out within the first month of sales with 30.62% of the total votes.
At the time of writing this post, the coins have been on sale for five days, and have not sold out. Will the survey results prove predictive, with a sell out occurring some time between the first week and first month of sales?
