Vishal Jadhav Need help on values of old Indian (Republic) coins.

Hi All,

I have a hobby of collecting coins. I do not "buy" them, but just keep collecting the coins as they come and not spend them at all. Also, I am not an expert numismatist.

This has led to a collection of some 1000 odd coins (not catalogued them as yet). These include the old 1 Paise, 2 Paise, 3 Paise, the big 1 Re., Rs. 5 and 10 coins, some commemorative coins too. (No, I am not so old....the really old ones were just lying with us since the days of my grandparents. :D…

David McCance Converting junk and Eagles into cell phones

I have a nice size collection of junk dimes, quarters, and half dollars. I also have silver eagles. Can these be legally melted down to use the silver in computers and cell phones. I am talking about a future when and if we have very little silver left. I was recently told that melting down any government minted coins is illegal. So if you want to save silver for this reason you should save only bars and rounds. Can anyone fill me in on the real story about this?
