Guess the Grade - 2011-W Silver Eagle

Okay, I know many of you have seen the grades I posted for these from the 25th Anniversary Set graded by PCGS.  I have something on my lens or in my camera that shows a spot in the same place.  You will see this spot on each coin on the left side in each image.  Please disregard this spot as it is not on the coin.  Sorry if each coin appears different.  They were taken at different times, but with similar lighting conditions under the exact same lights.  I received 1 grade in MS68 and 4 in…See More

2011 "25TH ANNIVERSARY SET" Silver Eagle Grades from PCGS

This is how the real grading service PCGS graded my shipment of 5 sets (without First Strike crap):2011 uncirculated..............................69/69/69/69/692011-S uncirculated..........................69/69/69/69/702011-W burnished uncirculated.......68/70/70/70/702011-W proof (DCAM).......................69/69/69/69/702011-P reverse proof........................68/68/69/69/69So, as you can see, PCGS is much more strict than NGC! If I had submitted them to NGC the 69s would have received…See More

Problem with callers trying to get me to invest in metals?

I have recently had a brash of phone calls from so-called prescious metals investors (Pan-American Metals in particular) who insist I give them my Social Security # and purchase 1000 ounces of silver with them. The catch is that I would be investing about $17,000 for the 1000 ounces in a leverage account. This makes absolutely no sense to me! It seems like a ponzi scheme. They don't want to offer the physical or tangible option to purchase and deliver the silver. When I ask for that option,…See More

Fort Knox is the Topic for Brad Meltzer's Decoded Season 2 Premiere on The History Channel!

I just wanted to bring this to your attention that the topic of Fort Knox has been investigated by Brad Meltzer's team for season 2 of Decoded on The History Channel. I personally am responsible for this episode as I posed the topic to one of my friends who is actually one of Brad Meltzer's team members on this hit show. Since many of our discussions center around the topic of precious metals and even Fort Knox itself, I thought it would be an episode that many of us will be interested in…See More

Is this a repeat of 2008 for the U.S. Mint?

I checked the mint's website this morning and found many of the collector bullion coins were listed as "temporarily unavailable". What does this mean?-True Money!See More

Watch out stock markets - Hello Precious Metals!

I am posting this in the wee hours of the morning. Just the fact that gold is currently trading up $50 and climbing has me worried about what will happen with our markets today!- True Money!See More

The U.S. Government is WASTING it's Time and your Money with ATB 5oz Silver Coins!

The way I see it, if I want to purchase 5 ounces of silver, I will purchase 5 Silver Eagles. When silver reaches $200 an ounce, I will have a much easier time selling 1 coin at $200 than 1 5oz coin at bulk silver value of $1,000 for the 5oz coin that is much too large for anyone to want to carry around in their pocket as a means of monetary trade. As you can already see, the collector interest in these 5oz coins has hit the dirt! No one wants them! The mint continues to waste time minting these…See More

Federal Chairman Bernanke doesn't believe Gold is Money!

Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke is being questioned today. Reliably, Ron Paul asked this question "For more than 6000 years gold has been the basis of money - do you think gold is money?". Bernanke's response - "NO!". This man has no damned clue! This seriously shatters my confidence in this country's economic system. What do you all think about this?-True Money!See More

What is the grade - 1963 Jefferson Nickel?

As many of you should know by now, I never try to deceive anyone with a poor quality photo of a coin. I hope this photo is good enough for many of you to determine a grade for this coin. It is such intricacies that most people don't want you to see, so they provide photos of lesser quality. Yes. There are some milk spots on this coin. There are some contact marks as well. What is the grade?…See More

What is our money really worth???

How much is our money really worth? If you think about it, all 90% silver dimes, quarters, and half dollars minted through 1964 are currentlyworth 29 times their face value due to the current price of an ounce ofsilver being $40 per ounce. So, in reference, our money is currentlyworth about 29 times less today than it was in 1964. So, do you thinkour economy is getting better???-True Money!See More

2009 UHR PCGS Report Card

I just ran across a curious bit of information on the PCGS Population Report within Coinfacts.  All of this hubbub about the PL designations on these coins may just shed the light on what they really are.  Claire absolutely hit the nail on the head with this one!  Perhaps the PL coins are actually the result of worn dies, not the earliest stage as initially thought.  The population report just reflected that PCGS has graded a total of 12,796 coins in non-PL grades.  There have been 7138 coins…See More

Bulk Submissions!

I just sent my first 2 bulk submissions for grading.  I may not get many super high grades, but I am hoping for one or two out of the 250 coins I just submitted.  Taking in consideration the costs of all of the coins, grading, and shipping fees, the total costs equate to about $16 per coin.  So, if I sell all of these coins, I need to get $4,000 just to break even.  If any of you have any experiences with bulk submissions, please discuss some things on here. Thank you! -True Money!See More

Precious Metals - Is This The Time To Buy?

With all of the commotion in the Middle East, oil is rising to drastic levels again.  This in having another major catastrophic impact on world economies.  They have even begun talks on QE3!  So, with all of this in mind, how do you feel about the state of the economy and precious metals? -True Money!See More

Metal, Paper, or Plastic?

I am watching this new series "Secret Service Files".  They just revealed many reasons why people should avoid using credit cards.  Another segment focused on the counterfeiting of paper currency.  We all know that the counterfeiting of coins has been a problem for many decades.  I have even been informed by the Federal Reserve that my personal credit card information had been compromised a little over a year ago by a U.S. Mint call center representative.  I immediately had my information…See More

Is this Numismatically Ethical?

I have brought up this subject before regarding ethical or unethical certified grading by NGC.  As I have said before, this kind of behavior concerns many like me and prevents us from paying as much for coins graded by NGC as their counterparts in similar grades by PCGS.  You will see in the opening sentence to this release from NGC that has me talking again on this issue.  If NGC received this coin after conservation from NCS, why isn't the conservation noted on the label?  This absolutely…See More

Profile Information

About Me
While growing up, my concentration was in baseball cards. I became so involved in the field that I was offered jobs as a professional grader for NGC's sister company SGC (Sportscard Guarantee Corporation) and PCGS's sister company PSA (Professional Sportscard Authenticator). Since graduating from college in 2000, I have worked in the airline industry. Numismatics and Numismatic Photography are now my main hobbies. I simply got overwhelmed with all of the products supersaturating the sports card market, not to mention the inability to complete sets, player popularity, and the overwhelming snobbery of approximately 95% of the dealers.

Coin collecting has always been a hobby of mine, even when I was collecting sports cards. My dad got me interested when I was a child. He had many old coins, but nothing with any major value until I did some homework and identified a 1916 Standing Liberty Quarter which I had graded by ANACS and later by PCGS as FR2. It isn't in the greatest condition, but is one of the Top 100 U.S. Coins and carries a nice numismatic value even in the condition of FR2. This, along with a better dealer atmosphere has encouraged me to pursue rare coins and precious metals instead of relying on over-rated and over-paid spoiled brats in professional sports performing at a job that I can perform with better results.

Currently, I have begun contributing articles and photos for a major numismatic publication as a freelance photographer/author.
About My Coin Collection
Aside from my dad's collection, I have mainly focused on anything within my financial range offered by the U.S. Mint each year with a focus on proof sets, Gold Buffalo $50 Proof Coins (since their inception in 2006), and anything silver that I can afford. The new 2009 UHR St. Gaudens coin is spurring my interest in other St. Gaudens coins. Another goal I have set for myself is completing a set of proof coins from 1879 graded by PCGS in CAM. I already have a nice 1879 3 cent piece graded PCGS PR65CAM. I am using that as a starting point.

Though I'm not into Baseball Cards, your Nolan Ryan comparison to the Olympic Coin made me go right onto ebay and buy them. I got 9 Nolan Ryan cards (one of which is the Fleer card) and an Olympic Proof Coin. I paid a total of $31 including shipping for both auctions. I think that is a small price to pay for something so cool. Thanks for the heads-up and I will always remember that "Money" was the idea man.

BTW- The Proof 3 cent piece is phenomenal !!!

Hi True Money: Greetings from India. I knew little about your PCGS grading Co., and I have few coins slabed by you.
There is one Ms.Susan Headley, about.com of New York Times Group, who has said that there are 'counterfeits' in PCGS slabs and coins.
She owes me $300 and not responding for nearly 9 months. Kindly inform whether it is possible for you to help me in this regard Thanks. S.george
