About My Coin Collection
I got my start when my father called me one day and said I had to come visit him asap. This was 250 miles away from my home in California. Making a weekend out of this trip not knowing what is up becouse my father would not let on. Upon arriving at my fathers home we chatted a bit and did the rutine catchup. He then takes me out to the garage where he has this big 1966 chysler new yorker that will not start. Trying to push this monster out of the way of what was quiet a feat in itself. Now that we have a 2 1/2 car garage with a dirt floor, no concrete cleared he tells me to start digging over there. I am still wondering what am I doing here, so ask the question again(what is this all about) he says keep digging that he whats me to find it???. After digging down( I do not dew shovels) about 6 inches he says well robert maybe its??? over here. This went on until I now have dug 4-5 holes in the dirt garage and finally I hear with the shovel that tink of metel or 1 big rock that says no more digging here. NOW I am tired by now and still have not been told why am I doing this. I clear an area of the tink sound which is 2x4 of metal chest burried in the ground. Then he says pull it out????? The look on my face must have been priceless. I dug a little more and found handles. Now I still have no idea what is in this chest but nedless to say when I try to pull this up the thing will not budge. Dad is just watching me. 2 old padlocks are on the lid to this chest and he then says here try this key????. It is not the key to the locks. Finally the best thing since mons apple pie, out comes the bolt cutters. My back really hurts by now. Cut the locks off open it up to find coins that he has been collecting for all of his life. Taking all the plastic viles of silver dimes, quarters, franklins, kennadys, morgan, peace dollar jeffersons and pennies and proof set and ???????????? I can now life this chest out of the ground without any effort at all. I am still in shock and then the story start to come back and the memories of when mon and dad where still married and he would bring home bags of coins and make me sit at the kitchen table and go through them looking for the silver ones or the good dates. All he ready said was he could not share the coin collecting with anyone now as the world has changed so you have to keep things under lock and key(and 6 inches of dirt) This is/was my father inhieritance gift to me and has since passed on. Thanks Dad for the good times.

Hi Robert,

Thank for the contact. Here in the uk its cold wet andsome snow so forgive me for being green with envy. The chest of coins must have been a great surprize. I have a somewhat smaller collection of coins as I only started  4 years ago when I visited Australia to see my cousin on my 60 birthday. Great to have you as a contact.

Kindest Regards

Rodney

Welcome Robert,   What an interesting story you have as an entry to coin collecting and what a memory to also have.  Enjoy your time here there are so many fascinating coins from so many different countries.  I wish that I had more time to sit and enjoy this lovely place (and drool).  By the way you have some top coins as well.  Enjoy
