About Me
I have been collecting coins from a very young age. My collection began with the coins of the British Commonwealth countries of Africa followed by UK coins and now coins of the Indian Sub Continent. I am a member of the Sikh Coins Group, Oriental Numismatic Society and the British Royal Mint Coin Club.
About My Coin Collection
Today I specialise in the coins of the Sikh Empire with some Mughal coins of India and Durrani coins of Afghanistan, also a few coins of East India Company.

It would have to be coins of the Sikh Empire

I have so many but the one which stands out is the silver rupee of AMRITSAR mint with the Nagri word "OM"

SIKH COINS INTRODUCED

It is a fact that many Sikhs and non Sikhs around the world are not aware that the Sikh Empire known as Punjab, covered a huge area in the North/West of India. The Punjab used a very fascinating monetary system consisting of coins and tokens in metals of Gold, Silver and Copper.

NUMBERING TABLE TO DECIPHER SIKH AND ISLAMIC COINS

THE DATES ON THE SIKH COINS MAY BE DECODED USING THE TABLE BELOW.



One thing you will need to note is that the dating system on SIKH coins was based on the Hindu Lunar calender, the Vikrami Sambat(VS) era. Therefore you will need to deduct 57 years from the date on the coin to get the Christian (AD) era.



For example:



1884 VS(Vikrami Sambat) era will become 1827 AD(Christian era)
