What coins do you collect?
I specialise in British Commonwealth banknotes & coins, including from such countries as Lesotho,Botswana,Namibia,Swaziland,South Africa,Rhodesia,& Zimbabwe.
I do have some postal orders in my collection from quite a few British African countries, including South West Africa,Bophuthatswana,Ciskei,Transkei,& Venda .
Aidan.
A contact of mine in America told me that the currency ones don't have datestamps at all.
I bought one of my 1 Pond postal notes off a guy over here in New Zealand who had put it up on eBay (a.k.a. FleaBay) as a South African one a few years back,& got no bidders. He went ahead & sold it to me for NZ$25.
The other one,I actually bought in a postal auction in England for the equivilant of around 10 Pounds Sterling.
I do have a 1 Pond note from the South African Republic, but no postal orders though.
I have got 2 of the Green Point Track Internment Camp notes - the 1/- & 2/- ones. There are 2 different 5/- notes, which are totally different colours, but they are very hard to find.
Aidan.
Please feel free to send me an email at britishcommonwealthnumismatics@gmail.com .
Aidan.
The interesting ones are the ones that were actually cashed outside the Orange Free State.I have got a 1/- one that was issued at Heilbron (O.F.S.) on the 6th. of April 1899 & cashed at Steynsburg (Cape of Good Hope) on the 10th. of April 1899.Yes,it has a C.G.H. 1d. red stamp on the back of the note.
All of the denominations exist as a currency issue, except for the 1/6 one.
The South African Republic's postal orders never turn up over here in New Zealand. Both the Cape of Good Hope & Natal also issued their own postal orders.
One of the most unusual postal orders I saw up on FleaBay was a 1/- British Postal Order with the 'BRITISH FIELD POST OFFICE SOUTH AFRICA' datestamp with a date of around 1900.That was up on FleaBay around 3 months ago.The Standerton B.F.P.O. issue for Natal is slightly more common, but it is still expensive.
Another very unusual postal order I saw was a South African 1/- one that was issued at Windhoek (South West Africa) in 1952 up on FleaBay a few months ago.
Aidan.
