What happened to Mrs. Johnson's coin?

Hi!,              Just looked at the product schedule today and it seems that the First Spouse coin issue date          for Mrs. Andrew Johnson has been deleted. Simple mistake or is there going to be a delay?            Alle the best, LarrySee More

HOW IMPORTANT IS THE HARDWOOD BOX TO YOUR COLLECTIBLE COIN?

Hi!          Did anyone ever stop to think about the hardwood display boxes that come with the high end collectible mint offerings, e.g., the gold eagles, first spouses, etc,? How much of our purchase price is attributable to the box? For those who slab, they are useless. For those counting pennies, the cost may make a difference. Can the mint entertain the idea of selling the coins without the box or the box having an insert that would also accomodate a slab? Any ideas?           HAPPY NEW…See More

Mary Todd Lincoln Gold

Hi!,        I don't know if I was just lucky or if the Mint is finally on the right track with the ordering process. I placed my order for the Mary Lincoln First Spouse, Proof and Uncirc., at exactly 12:00 Noon, and the total order and receipt was given before the minute was out! This is a far cry from past experience: no freezes on the computer, no "temporarily disabled" pop-ups, etc. In short, this was the one FS coin that I was expecting inordinate delays with and on the contrary,it turned…See More

2010 Gold Eagle Proofs

Hi!,       Just finished placing an order for the 4 coin set. Items went on sale closer to 12:01 than to Noon, anyway ordered and had receipt by 12:03, despite a little sluggishness on line. I hope there are no problems ala UHRs. Good Luck, LarrySee More

Buchanan First Day Covers v. Buchanan Dollar & Medallion Set

Hi!,        Gee, I'd love to know who used the air brush on the Buchanan portrait shown on the Coin & Medallion set, I could use a guy like this to clean up my own pictures! Alternatively, if the brush wasn't used, they must have had it in for Ol' Jim when they did the First Day cover shot! I thought that the pictures were supposed to be of him as President and if they are, the job must have really taken its toll on him in the aging department (and he was only a one-termer!).           …See More

Gold Buffalo Bullion Mintages

Hi!      Latest news on the bullion version of the 2010 Gold Buffalo is that it is sold out (or no longer available, as the case may be) with a last published mintage of 209,000. I note that last year's final mintage at sell-out was 200,000 and was wondering if the 200,000 figure may be the mint's final number for the 2010, too. It would definitely not be the first time that the mint has revised down previously issued mintage and sales numbers. It's only a possible scenario but I'm interested…See More

Is the First Strike Designation More Than a Farce

Hi!,           Having seen the recent flight to the stars for the Julia Tyler First Spouse coins, I am wondering about the First Strike designation offered by PCGS for different coins. Particularly, the entire issue of 8,000 Platinum Eagles for 2009 qualifies for First Strike regardless of postmark or receipt, primarily based on the fact that the coin was a fast sell-out and only so many dies were called into service in its production. Now, the entire production of Uncirculated Julia Tyler…See More

Is There An Error In The Hot Springs Silver Proof Coin?

Hi!,          Just read a blurb from one of Dave Harper's articles concerning a reader of his who inquired as to whether or not the Hot Springs quarter in the silver proof set had an error insofar as the reverse appears to be in an uncirculated non-proof finish. So, I opened up the two sets that I received last week and it appears that the reverse is indeed not what we would call a proof.  The same finish is on both reverses so does anyone out there know if this is an error coin or just a…See More

Respected Justice Lary: Greetings from India. I am a great lover of President Kennedy and have letters from Kennedys. I collect U.S.coins date-wise and mint-wise and complete a Set in lower grades. As I live far away from you, it is quite difficult collect U.S.Coins. I have few old 50-Cents. Since I was concentrating on Morgans, Peace etc., I could not go into commemoratives.
Glad to know about your goodself and your wonderful collection. Wish you, early completion of your collection.
Now I have started to collect Large 1-Cents. Pl. reply
Sincerely, S.George
