Time To Bring Our Hobby Into The New Century!

Hi everyone, I'm a new member but I have something that needs to be said. It is time to bring our hobby out of the dark ages and into the light of modern technology. The very fact that we still submit our coins to human beings to be graded leaves the door wide open for problems. Consider this my fellow numismatic friends. We now possess the technology to have our coins graded by lasers that cannot only measure the luster of a coin but can measure its true dimensions. How deep is that cameo, how…See More

Profile Information

About Me
I enjoy learning about coins, trading coins, and also buying and selling coins. I have spent most of my working life in the automotive field as a transmission technician. I am a peace loving individual who enjoys researching coins in the quite solitude of night with a good cup of coffee. Simple pleasures are the best.
About My Coin Collection
My collection consists of World and US coins. Mostly 19th and 20th century. I like quality coins UNC and up. I don't collect to complete sets, I collect coins more for who the engraver was. I do prefer silver coins since I like the patina they produce. If a certain coin was produced in silver first and then copper or nickel later, I will usually only collect the silver coins from that series unless I like the engraver. Example: I will collect just about any Jefferson Nickel, silver or not.
Favorite Coin Series
Winged Liberty Head Dimes (aka Mercury Dimes)
Favorite Coin from Your Collection
Any Winged Liberty Head Dime or Walking Liberty.

Hello !!

I am sure that Coin Network will bring many special-interest collectors and hobbyists together. I am a collector, hobbyist, and coin-student based in India.

Indian coins are gradually becoming a rage worldwide. To know more about them, I request you to please join Indian Coins group at

http://www.coinnetwork.com/group/indiancoins

Help us to popularize Indian Coins collection, study and information-dissemination. This can be done if a very large number of friends are brought to this group for sharing of information about Indian Coins.

I am sure that you will help in this venture

Very Cordially,

The first loonie to be made was 1987 before that it was just considered a dollar. The term loonie came from the loon on the new dollars when they changed the design and weight. the old nickle dollars were 15.62 grams and the new loon dollars were 7 grams, thus they can make two for one easily. What you have is one Nickle for circulation or out of a set it is hard to tell and one Silver Specimen dollar that was issued in a clam shell type case. It is 50% silver. Any questions on Canadian coins is not a problem if you need.
