Coin holders

I asked about this a couple of years ago but figured things may have changed. Is it possible to buy coin holders like those used by third party graders. I'd like to use them for everything from the UHR to First Spouse and ASE's. I'd especially be interested in holder that allows the edge of the coin to be seen for the UHR.Thanks,BillSee More

25th Anniversay sets have arrived.

Well the USPS tracking info was correct, my sets arrived today. My order was sent via USPS all the way. Twenty three out of twenty five capsules were loose in there cases. Two coins had come completely out of their capsules. Oddly, the two coins that were out of their capsules do not have any damage at all using a 10X loupe. One of the empty capsules was completely closed so securely I had to use a knife blade to open it just to put the coin back in.I have not finished examining the coins yet…See More

This story is rather irritating.

With all of the unemployed people in this country you would think we would not need to hire a British firm to design and implement an order system for the UNITED STATES MINT! Given the state of our economy, how could the govt NOT award such a contract to a US firm? http://www.coinworld.com/articles/british-firm-developing-u-s-mint-order-manage/BillSee More

Do errors on silver rounds command a premium?

Hi all,I just picked up some more silver today and five of the rounds had Lady Liberty on the front in a stylized version of the Morgan Dollar and the reverse has a sort of sunburst pattern with "One Troy Ounce .999 Fine Silver" in the center. On the obverse, at a point that coincides exactly with the lower left portion of her neck and running diagonally to the upper right to the point where her neck, jaw line and hair meet is a jagged "line" where you can see that the die was obviously cracked.…See More

This should be good for PM's!

Just saw a poll question on FoxNews regarding Obama's jobs speech today. I should say that I did not watch or read the speech. The question was "What jobs idea do you agree with most?" Options are:Payroll tax cuts for employers and employees Tax credits for businesses to hire veteransTax credits to hire the long-term unemployedAid to states to prevent layoffsInvestment in infrastructure projectsOtherIt seems to me that at some very fundamental level, this administration either does not…See More

Guess the grade. 1891 S Liberty Double Eagle.

I'm going to close down the other discussion and move it here now that I have images to share. My dealer let me borrow the coin until he returns next week so I have scanned it at 600dpi. My recollections were a little off so my apologies to those who responded to the other thread. The shine and luster are not really apparent in the images but tilting it in the light reveals two "cones" of light 180 degrees apart that shimmer around the center of the coin.I do not possess the skill to even hazard…See More

What will the US Debt Downgrade do to PM prices?

I'm curious what you all think will happen to PM prices on Monday, Rest of Week, End of Month and End of Year? My predictions for Silver:Monday I expect some volatility for sure but think it will stay in the $40 range. Rest of Week I expect to be up about $3-$4. End of Month I'm looking for $40 to $48 and perhaps slightly above $50. End of Year I think we'll see $80-$85. Perhaps more if QE III is announced/proven. It's certainly going to get very interesting. Debt Downgrade and now Germany is…See More

Adventures in coin cleaning.

Earlier this week I paid my local PM dealer a visit and had my first experience with PVC damaged coins. The guy had ten 1963 Roosevelt dimes that were supposedly in BU condition. I've mentioned before that I have a small ultrasonic cleaner. (light industrial model) Knowing nothing about how to clean PVC damaged coins I checked the web and found that Acetone is the solvent of choice. The interior of cleaner is stainless steel so to avoid further damage to the coins I cut a piece of plastic mesh…See More

Where to buy graded coins.

I am trying to obtain a few graded coins for my father as he has retired for the third and likely final time in his life this year. I have attempted to purchase the coins I want from APMEX with bad results. I never purchase graded coins for myself and until now I have never purchased a graded coin at all. I have never bought coins online from anyone except actual mints of the USA, Canada, Austria and Australia. Both coins I recently purchased from APMEX were MS69 graded by PCGS. Both coins had…See More

Prisoner or Prison pennies?

On a recent trip to visit my parents I was able to get my father to break out his coin collection. The collection is still being added to but the bulk of it was put together in the early 70's when I was a young kid. I clearly remember sorting through many bags of pennies on the dining room table. Come to think of it, some of my best childhood memories are centered around that table.I had not seen the collection since 1979 at least. The error coins pulled from circulation were my favorite. There…See More

Is this an error or common?

Today I received a 2008 one ounce gold Buffalo bullion coin. It is still in its original plastic, vaccum sealed package. I noticed that the rim on the obverse is very tall and sharp. I'd say at least one mm or more. At about the 10:30 position on the coin, the edge is humped up even higher. Possible two mm or more. Viewed from the edge, the coin appears much thicker in this location. The reverse looks normal. I've handled many of these but never seen one (or any) coin with such a deep or tall…See More

Numismatic ATB Silver Coins

Hard to believe that these have not sold out! If the bullion coins were "all that and a bag of chips" it boggles the mind that these are still available.I doubt that this series will be completed due to lack of interest and skyrocketing bullion prices. The CME today raised margins AGAIN for the third time is five days! By December they will require 100% cash payments for paper silver! The monkeys are pulling out ALL the stops to hold silver below $50. Check out a 7-10 day silver chart and…See More

PM market forecasts.

Having gone "stupid in" on PM's you can imagine that I spend considerable time reading on the subject. I seek out any and all opinions both for and against PM's. More often than not, I only visit most sites a few times. This could be because the site offers nothing new to me or I already access the same info in a favoured site. However, it is usually due to the signal to noise ratio being rather low.Regulars here know that I rarely suggest or promote any other websites but about five weeks ago…See More

Deflation or Hyperinflation?

Here is a truly great read from FOFOA with equally great comments below. I must warn you that it will take quite some time to read and digest but it's well worth the effort. Getting through it made my head hurt. Probably the most intelligent piece I've read on the topic.Deflation or Hyperinflation Have a Happy Easter,BillSee More

Bill,
If you are registered on eBay,there's a guy named Nick Reynolds (bwananick) who may be able to put you in touch with someone,as he is only a wholesaler himself.

Hi Bill,

My avatar image is the obv of Middlesex 1106 - milled edge variety. There a good number of end of pain tokens (Halfpenny and farthing sized) and several more that feature men hanging without the "end of pain" legend in the Conder token series. They are harder to find, not so much because they are unusually rare but are rather popular. Average prices of farthings in UNC without impairments are about $400-500 depending on the variety and condition. Truly spectacular examples maybe a bit more.+100 about. On the other end, if it were a nice AU, probably -100 or more.

As for the Halfpennies, UNCs without impairments are $600-800 (some will exceed this greatly though...so you must be careful from who you buy.)

Hi again Bill,

Are you going to the Baltimore Whitman coin expo?
(I don't know where you are from in the world so this question might be a moot point.)
