The coins ha beem cleaned and the pics made to look better than the coisn turned out to be. I just let it go, as to try and get money back from an unwilling person is near impossible. The best way to avoid this issue is to pay by paypal and start a dispute if you are not happy. If your payments exceed $5000 you can contact your local police dept and they may investigate it if the coins are counteirfeit or fraud is suspected. Theft is easier to prove. The US secret service will CONFISCATE any counteifiet coins and likely ask her where she got them from. The best chance of success, if you paid by Visa, try throught them to file a fraud investigation ( it often works), or take it to small claims court , she will be subpoenaed and will have to show up and defend herself. From Canada it is imposssible to do anything.
Best for now
Chris
If you file a claim through small claims court, the court will force ebay to supply her personal details. You will have no problem making her show up as not doing so will cause her to be charged with failing to appear which is a criminal offense.
My advice, build up a body of evidence to make your case stronger, copy the auction details as you will have to prove that she knew she was selling some thing different than advertised. Try and find other glaringly obvious examples. The test is whether the weight of evidence is in your favour. Dont assume a court will find in your favour, so make your case as solid as you can.

The coins were a few $20 St.gaudens as far as I remember. I didnt post FB as it was before ebay instituted the "cant give neg FB once you have received neg FB as a seller" system. She would just have retaliated and ruined my 100% + FB. I did email about the problems and heard nothing back. You should start with the police, all they can say is no. Then the SS, all they can say is no as well. Lawyers are no use, so that leaves Visa and Small CCourt.
Keep me updated if anything transpires.

Yup, once any official leg of Gov starts looking, they usually get ugly quickly if they smell a rat. Even if they dont end up charging the seller with an offense, it may make the person think twice about the way they do business.
I like one repro coin. I bought a copy of the Indian Head Pattern $20 coin Judd-1446 and had one made in 24K gold, with some small alterations so anyone can see it is not real. I really like it anyway.

I once bid on a bottle of Nederburg wine in Souht Africa. It had been made in 1762. I got knackered one night with my old army buddies and decided to drink it. It think it may have significantly contributed to the severe gastritis that hospitilized a few of us for the next week. Maybe not all old things are as good as they look to be !
I have since stopped buying coins that are not slabbed, although I did score on ebay twice. A 1866 Motto $20 for $1600 that went MS63 and a 1911 $20 St.Gaudens Matte Proof in a NCS slab that everyone ignored and assumed to be nasty, went NGC PF64.
I suppose it depends on the coin, so I got lucky twice, but I will not buy any more coins unless I have either seen them in my hand or they are in a NCG, PCGS or Anacs slab.
Peel of the labels and drink the Rothchild !

An HD film maker very cool...I'm a librarian for film & sound Elements in Chicago...we now get a ton of HD stuff....anyway I have caught the coin bug a few years ago and now have a fever. I have collected a varity of both Silver and Gold coins and have started photographing them in all sorts of ways...
