I think a great place to start would be ending the disaster of the new Lincoln penny.Although Lincoln has always been the most popular.I really believe the US Mint has destroyed his popularity with the 2009 pennies.(quality and Mint problems).Rather then have him on any new pennies.I think it is time to round up to the nickel and use a symbol which was on the first nickels.

Take for example the obverse being the liberty nickle and the reverse being the shield nickel.I think that would be one beautiful coin.
