Coin Network - Coin Collecting Social Network

In addition to banknotes, coins, community currencies, currency tokens,& medal-coins,both postal notes & postal orders are also going to be given catalogue listings up on http://www.worldnumismaticphotogallery.net/ once it comes online either later on this week or during the next week or so.

The website is in the process of being built by a fellow numismatist, who comes from India.

Postal order collecting has become popular with collectors, especially in England,so it is appropriate that they should finally get listed, considering that a postal order is most definitely a numismatic item, because of its strong resemblance to a banknote.

Yahya,
Those are very nice.

The old Green,Black,& Yellow issue postal orders have been confirmed as having their commissions increased up to 15 Rupees.

Some dated 2009 are known from post offices in both Karachi & Lahore so far.

Aidan.
Dear Aidan,
Re T-2, Rs 10-,Date is 10th July 1980, issued at "Karachi Sadar N.P.O".

Yahya,
That 10 Rupees one is pretty nice, even though I couldn't read the date or the place name in the datestamp.

Bengali was included, because of the postal orders being issued in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) as well as West Pakistan (now Pakistan).

Aidan.
Yahya,
That's pretty late for the issue that includes Bengali,as Bangladesh seceded from Pakistan back in 1971.

Aidan.
Dear Aidan,
The noteworthy point is that type-2 (Bangla) and type-3 were both sold in Karachi in 1980(July 80 & sept 80). Basically the post office first exhausts the stock of old type before selling the new type.

Yahya,
If these are dated 1980,then they are very late issues.

Although Pakistan changed to decimal currency in 1961,it is the date of the datestamp that influences whether the postal order is a contemporary issue or a late issue.

Aidan.
Yahya,
So my Type 5 20 Rupees is a late issue,being dated 2007.

Aidan.
Dear Aidan,
The print order for your Rs.20, T-5, was placed by Post Office on the printers for 300,000 pcs on 18th Sept 2003.Sale may have started late 2003, assuming stock of Rs. 20- T-4 ,yellow/green/black had finished

Yahya,
What does 'N.P.O.' & 'S.P.O.' stand for?

I wouldn't be too surprised if the Pakistani Army, the Pakistani Air Force,& the Pakistani Navy had their own Field Post Office system like both India & the U.K. does.

In India, both regular postal orders & special Field Postal Orders (which are expensive (& elusive!)) are issued through the Indian Field Post Offices.

In the U.K.,the majority of British Field Post Offices do issue British Postal Orders, but all B.F.P.O.-issued postal orders are classed as being very rare,as the civilian population is not meant to know where these B.F.P.O.s are located & what numbers are used.

You can see photos of some of my B.F.P.O.-issued postal orders up on http://www.worldnumismaticphotogallery.net .

Those issued at B.F.P.O.s located in a proper British Commonwealth country (Cyprus, for example) are far rarer than those from B.F.P.O.s located in a foreign country (Afghanistan, for example).

Aidan.
