I enjoy collecting large silver coins and Morgan Dollars offer an almost unlimited scope of fun challenges and can be tailored to a beginning collector (collecting one Morgan Dollar of each Mint facility; Philadelphia, New Orleans, San Francisco, Denver and Carson City) or to an advanced collector (collecting a complete date and mint mark set). Uncirculated coins for the common dates can easily be located for under $30, while even a well worn key date 1893-S will cost several thousand dollars. I welcome contact and discussions with collectors of all levels of interest and knowledge. I am not a dealer, just a collector, but I try to get to at least 2-3 national shows a year. Right now, I am preparing to attend the FUN show in Orlando which begins in less than 10 days!

I have been collecting coins for 47 years but only started collecting Morgan
Dollars 9 years ago. I need 16 coins to complete my set. I have a good many
extras. My set ranges from Fine to UNC. I have never sold a coin in my 47
years of collecting but did trade a set of Roosevelt Dimes, in the early 70s,
for a large collection of U. S. stamps.

I've just started collecting Morgan's and I must say that I'm totally addicted. I've really got to watch myself or I'll be spending money like a drunken sailor. I've developed an interest in the VAM's and am thinking of putting together a subset of these unique goodies. Then,. I think I'll branch off into the Peace dollar and the Walking Liberty half-dollars. At one point, there was a 'Show me your VAM's' section in here. Anyone happen to know where it went?

Awesome, awesome 1893-S. I used to have one and sold it. It was in an ANACS VF20 holder, but professional opinion was that it was F-15-F18. Yours looks like a solid VF to me. I collect Morgans as well as other types. I have 4 Carson City dollars in DMPL. Will post pics when I can.

Im sure you guys interested in VAMs are aware of www.vamworld.com and a loosely related auction site called www.vamquest.com. Vamworld has a very active, if somewhat painfully technical forum on VAM varieties. A number of well known Morgan collectors and dealers participate. Lots of pics on the forum and on Vamquest to look at. Many of the coins for sale on VAMquest are affordable and include Peace Dollars.

Garry-Thanks a ton for that info. I found vamworld.com by accident and love the site. I really got hooked on locating VAM's after reading some of the material there. Vamquest is new to me. I'm gonna go check it out....

Glad you like it Devin. Someone just outbid me on the 1878 VAm 84A. Im letting it go if anyone wants it. Also are you guys familiar with the Carson City Coin Collectors of America. The president of the club owns Southgate Coin in Reno. Wonderful little group. Has its own blog which is free. http://c4oa.blogspot.com/

The dues are $25 per year. With it you get a great journal that has articles and photos and letters all submitted by members. The journals are starting to approach 100 pages now. Awesome history on Carson City and its coins and great collecting stories
