The Balkans have been a very interesting area for me to collect coins from. But the most interesting era is the medieval period. It gives some insight about some of the current affairs of the former Yugoslavia and the other areas of the Balkan region. Here are a couple of examples. The first specimen is a Coronation Dinar from the SERBIAN EMPIRE c. 1346 AD. This coin shows Stefan Uros IV~Dusan being crowned Tsar, marking Serbia's rise to imperial status. The second is a silver Dinar from the BANATE OF BOSNIA dating from 1322-1353. This was issued under Ban: Stjepan Kotromanic II, and is one of the earliest coins from Bosnia.
