I have just started collecting these types of medals. What are the key books on these medals?

Dear Paul, welcome. If you have just started collecting these types of medals, you are in for a great deal of fun and learning. My main areas of interest are: medals, jetons, coins and decorations (military and civilan) of Louis XIV, Louis XV, Louis XVI, French Revolutionary, Napoleon I, Louis XVIII. As for sources for the Napoleonic period - there are a number, but they are generally difficult to obtain. They are namely: Bramsen, Essling, Scargill Mudie, Zeits, Laskey and a few others. They were for the mostly part published during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Not any one of these offers a comprehensive catalogue - thus you will need several of them to get proper descriptions, explanations, etc. If you are interested, I have available high quality reprints of some of these. Regards, a fellow Napoleon collector.
