Lincoln Cents Group

A group for all Lincoln Cent collectors!

The obverse design for the Lincoln Cent designed by Vincent D. Brenner has been used uninterrupted for nearly 100 years! During the Lincoln Cent's long life span, it has had three different compositions with predominant metals of copper, steel, and zinc.

The Lincoln Cent reverse design was changed from Wheat Ears to the Lincoln Memorial in 1959 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Lincoln's birth. In 2009, the reverse design will be changed again to celebrate the 200th anniversary.

The series offers many notable highlights during its long run. This includes arguably the most famous key date coin and error coin, namely the 1909-S V.D.B. Lincoln Cent and the 1955 Double Die Lincoln Cent.

Post some pictures of your favorite Lincoln Cents in the forum and discuss the series with other Lincoln collectors!

Hello fellow Lincoln Cent collectors! Here's a picture of one of the elusive "S" mint Lincoln Memorial Cents.

Lincoln cents are or maybe I should say were a nice series of coins to put together as a set as long as you do not get to crazy about condition. I have assembled numerous sets of lincolns, I think some of these coins that were affordable will not remain so. Acquire them soon

Hi all. Has anyone seen this 1956-D? I have three of these. I purchased this from ebay. Opinion is that this is a strikethru, not an RPD.

I am a member of coppercoins also. Bob abd Chuck there are of the opinion that is not a doubled die. I dont think anyone knows for sure what it is. put a photo up, Tom.

I agree, Tom, that the dimensions make it look like part of a 5, but if its doubling, why is only part of the 5 visible? Why is not the rest of the date doubled? I am not familiar with the details surrounding use of master hubs and working dies, thats a technical question one of the guys at Coppercoins can discuss. There are long detailed discussions about this coin on Coppercoins.com either in the Lincoln Cents forum or in one of the error or die variety forums. have to search... I like the coin too. Got three of them relatively cheap. Look forward to continued discussion....I also have that 1980 D/S that was eventually debunked... Garry

Too me it kinda looks like a die break.
Garry N Comment by Garry N on February 10, 2009 at 3:51pm
Yes a die break is also a good explanation
Garry N Comment by Garry N on February 10, 2009 at 7:55pm
thats why no one knows what it is... :)
Garry N Comment by Garry N on February 10, 2009 at 9:02pm
it could be a strikethru too. Here is the discussion on coppercoins.com

1956-D cents have a bunch of interesting die repunched mintmarks, numbers 1 and 8 are great. I have a one of each in 65 red.
