I hear that the Gold Dinar and silver Dirham are making a comeback as a way of paying zakat. Has anyone heard any more about where to buy any of these coins?
I was thinking more of this site http://www.islamicmint.com/ I have been to the other site but as they are not legal tender they just look like a fantasy coin more than anything, I may be wrong but I remember reading that site cover to cover and not being that taken with it.
The site above looked promising but their email system didn't seem to be working. This looked more like the Official attempt to launch an Islamic nation-wide unit of currency that would fore go the use of the US Dollar in trades between Muslim nations. I have not heard how it is doing but I would be interested in getting a few examples of each, It would be a good start to get some real money circulating though I got the idea that most of the transactions would be electronic.
The idea is that alms must be paid with real money and not an IOU or unit of dept, which is what a Federal Reserve Note is.
Mark,
Neither http://www.islamicmint.com or http://www.islamicmint.com.my have their email systems working.
I think that those things are fantansies that are struck solely as bullion, not for actual commerce.
The Kelantanese Dinar IS a legitimate coin,as it has been approved by both the Sultan & Government of Kelantan, even though they are strictly speaking,in violation of the Constitution of the Federation of Malaysia.
The Kedahan Dinar is also a legitimate coin as well,as it has been approved by both the Sultan & Government of Kedah.

Thanks Aidan, any idea of how much the percentage mark up there is over the bullion value? i.e. more than the mark up on a sovereign or Krugerand?
I am keen on bullion but I normally collect old circulating coins as there is less senioraige than on official mint products. Also they aren't in limited editions so there is not that much competition for them. will get in touch with Paul, thanks
