I dont think I would be able to carve, but if there is some discussion about it, I might try it. Otherwise the background and origins would be interesting too.

Tom. I found this site APMEX, that has a ton of coins for sale and even has a list of hobo nickels. No pictures unfortunately.

I dont know why not. There are pictures of coins in every other category. Are they reasonably priced?

I picked up a hobo nickel a while ago, I am not sure what the South African version of a Hobo is but the coin is from 1896. I understand that this doesn't date the coin to any degree of accuracy but I can't see why anyone now-a-days would want to practice on a coin over 100 years old.
