I've wanted to start this group for a while now. I've just been a bit lazy is all. There's a lot of history w/ these coins and plenty of room for discussion and questions.

Has anyone bought an early commemorative of late? I can't due to the release of the High Relief Gold coin on the 22nd of this month. That will take up a chunk of change! That's if I can even get one. Good luck to all who try to get one.

Hi!,
Just joined this group although I'm a member of coin network since the beginning. I have a collection of all modern commems, silver and gold, including all gold eagle, gold buffalo, platinum and silver eagles, although with the exception of the buffaloes which might in some way be counted as a commem edition, the latter really don't fit the category. I also have a full set of 50 type early commems, and am 7 coins shy of filling out an additional 144 coin set of early commems. I've a double set of the 11 gold commems and if things ever change, hope to get the two slugs some day. The seven coins that I need are the 1939 P,D, & S Arkansas and Oregon sets and a 1936S Oregon. If anyone has them for sale or trade, please let me know. I have a lot of multiples and when I started collecting as a kid, buying was unheard of, the swapping or trading route was preferred, but times have changed. Hope to hear back from someone. All the best, Larry

Hi everyone, I'm new to this social network. Is this group for Commemorative coins, like the upcoming Lincoln Silver Dollar? I did order two of each, the Proof and Uncirculated. I just can't believe it hasn't been such a popular commemorative coin (or at least I've read posts indicating their not selling as many).

Hi all,
Sorry I've been absent for so long. I just haven't had any money to play with so I haven't had much to say. I'm not saying that's the way it should be but no matter if you're buying or not you can still contribute and ask/answer questions. I promise to do better in the future. =)

Whoa have I been absent! I totally missed talking about the two commem's in 2010. They were the Disabled Veterans and the Boy Scouts Silver Dollars. I purchased the Disabled Vets, as I am one, silver dollar. I protested against the Boy Scouts Silver Dollar. Celebrating the anniversary of Boy Scouts should not have included the Girl Scouts as they are getting their own coin.

I have ordered the 2011 Army 5$ gold proof and both half dollars. I also ordered the Medal of Honor 5$ gold proof. I skipped both of the aforementioned commemorative coins when it comes to the silver dollars. I have a full set of Modern Half Dollar Commemoratives so I made sure to get both the uncirculated and proof Army half dollars. The gold coins, proof, had such nice designs I had to pick them up!

Anyone else getting any of these?

Yes, i have been purchasing most of the commeratives since 2000.  I have skipped a few, and now thing that i will skip the clad half dollars (unless the design/theme is rally to my liking).  2011 has been a busy year for special/commem coins of all sorts!

SmallPotatos, I collect the halves too! I have a complete set of modern halves including the proofs and business strikes alike. I even have several perfect examples! As far as the collecting of the dollar coins I only buy the ones I like or the ones I feel will be worth more money down the road.

I do the early commems too but I have no illusions of having an example of every one as some are very illusive and very expensive. I am trying to hold true to my vision which is all early commems should be graded at MS65 or higher. I have managed to obtain a complete set of BTW halves w/ the bulk being MS66 or higher. I'm pretty proud of that set as there are some great looking examples I have obtained.

Good luck with your collecting.
