Check out these Scots coins;

The Scots coin series is notoriously difficult to collect.

N.D. (1280-86) 1 Penny;

The death of King Alexander III (ruled 1249-86) plunged Scotland into severe turmoil,including occupation & the imposition of puppet Kings of Scotland (including John Balliol) by King Edward I.It was resentment at England that led to the Scots War of Independence & the enthronement of King Robert I,the Bruce.

N.D. (1637) 20 Pence;

Most people are not aware that the first country in the British Isles to have a 20 Pence coin was Scotland.Well,here is proof.

N.D. (1637-42) 30 Shillings (1 Pound & 10 Shillings) - Sir John Falconer's Coinage;

Sir John Falconer was the Master of the Royal Scots Mint in Edinburgh when this coin was struck.The mintmaster's mark is the letter 'F' pushed over.It is located just above the ground line below the horse's hoof on the obverse.

Unfortunately,this coin has been cleaned & plugged by a previous owner.I was more than happy to pick it up,just to fill a space in the notoriously difficult to collect Scots coin series.

1695 20 Shillings (1 Pound);

The coins of King William are of historic interest,as there is no ordinal number in his title on Scots coins.The reason for this is he regarded himself to be King William I of Great Britain,although he was really King William II of Scotland & King William III of England & Ireland.

Planchet faults & die breaks & cracks are common in King William II's coins.

Unusually,I found all of my Scots coins in the numismatic trade over here in New Zealand.

Scots coins are of personal interest to me,as I am of both Scots & Orcadian Norse chiefly descent.

Please let me know what you think.

Aidan.
