I wanted to carry this discussion over from the wall...
The US Mint has the following statement about the 2009 Proof Silver Eagles
Production of United States Mint American Eagle Silver Proof and Uncirculated Coins has been temporarily suspended because of unprecedented demand for American Eagle Silver Bullion Coins. Currently, all available silver bullion blanks are being allocated to the American Eagle Silver Bullion Coin Program, as the United States Mint is required by Public Law 99-61 to produce these coins “in quantities sufficient to meet public demand . . . .”
The United States Mint will resume the American Eagle Silver Proof and Uncirculated Coin Programs once sufficient inventories of silver bullion blanks can be acquired to meet market demand for all three American Eagle Silver Coin products.
Subsequent to posting this information, the demand for bullion Silver Eagles has declined. The US Mint once had the bullion coins subject to rationing, whereby authorized purchasers were limited in the number of coins they could order. As of last week, the rationing has ended.

This definitely sets the stage for the US Mint to begin production of 2009 Silver Eagles for collectors. The question is how soon they can have them available?
Another question, how will the limited time frame for 2009 Proof Silver Eagles impact the mintages and (later) secondary market prices for the coins? If the coins are available for only a few months, will the mintage end up very low, or will collectors be prepared and order heavily resulting in a normal mintage?
