Thanks for the link and ideas. These are some fantastic coins.

Question: The $300 Gold Coin - Summer Moon Mask (2009) has the following specs:

Mintage Limited to 1200 coins worldwide
Composition 58.33% gold, 41.67% silver
Finish proof
Weight 60.0
Diameter (mm) 50
Edge serrated
Certificate serialized
Facevalue $300
Artist Jody Broomfield

What is the weight? 60 grams? I love this coin, but what is it actually worth in gold? I'm new at this and before I start wading into the market I need to figure these things out. "Buy the book and then buy the coin"....right?
The 300 moon mask contains approx. 1.11oz of gold and approx .8 ounces of silver giving to a bullion value. This would give the coin a bullion value of approx $920.

I saw on the new Mint's website that they put the Summer Moon Mask in the high-relief category. I have this coin, and it certainly has a beautiful design, but I didn't consider it a high-relief coin. Same for the dinosaur coins: they have a great rock-like finish, but I didn't think of them as high-relief.

All the coins in the vignettes of royalty series, for example, are obviously extra-high relief (and also quite impressive!).

Hi Patrice:

Curious why you would not consider the Summer Moon Mask (silver version) a high relief coin.... I have a pair of them and it seems to me that they fit the definition pretty well... though I don't have any other high relief coins to compare it to....

Is there a published definition of what would qualify a striking as "high relief" that we could appeal to? I would assume that the Canadian Mint would have conformed their definitions to the technical requirements practiced and accepted in the numismatic community if such "standards" are in place or that are alternately accepted amongst professional numistists as a "conventional" definition. I'd be a bit shocked if the Canadian Mint just went out on their own in describing this offering as "high relief" without subjecting the offering to one or more of the "tests" or "conventions" I've just mentioned.

I'm actually pretty excited about the silver moon mask and will probably order another pair or so... and then shoot for the gold version.
