Coin Network - Coin Collecting Social Network

Where is everyone who used to post here on Coin Network?

Where is everyone who used to post here on Coin Network?

I have noticed in the past year that quite a few members who were very active have now either started to seldomly come on board,or have ceased posting completely?

As a result, quite a few groups have either gone quite or have totally died completely.I have noticed this with quite a few groups I have created. The Postal Order Collectors' group is a notable case.

I don't want to sound impolite, but many of the people who were posting on this site have probably been dealing with the challenges of the economy that we all talk about but did not want to believe. This site was created for discussing topics centered around coins. As discussions broke out over economic and political issues that dealt with coins, it seemed to scare many of them away. This is indeed what this site was meant for - to discuss issues that relate to the numismatic world. The problem is that many of them did not want to hear or could not handle the truth, so they stopped visiting. I can't speak for everyone, but this is what I believe has happened.

Personally, I left for a while myself, mainly because it seemed that many of the discussions were ending up being a series of attacks on various people or groups. I believe debate on the issues, including economic and political issues, is a good thing that we can all learn from whether we agree with someone else's views or not. Many of these issues are relevant to coins and especially precious metals. But when it gets to the point it is just attacks on individuals and groups, there is little to be learned regardless of what the original topic was. I don't know that the reason for people leaving was so much what the discussions were about as much as the way they were conducted. At least for me that was true, but I don't know why others have left.
We covered this in the "Where are you" thread......I think its just because it has been an extremely boring year for coins. I dont think a bad economy is going to stop anyone from coming here and discussing coins? But NOT having any exciting coin news to discuss definately will! Most people like myself are here to discuss coins and learn about coins.....I myself could care less what others political views or economic views are??? It is what it is!!
I think posters left because other members wernt replying to there posts and answering there questions other coin forums have lost alot of members to maybe because of ethics violations
A lot of the coin collectors left when the investor types starting taking over the group.
When I started on this forum, it seemd fun but after being ignored all the time I gave up and moved away.
I try to talk about numismatics on here.

I don't care what political views anyone here holds.

As for bullion prices, that is way over my head.

America has had a rough time in the last two years and this may be reflected in the lack of enthusiasm expressed toward the Mint State of quarters or the rarity of Morgan dollars. Inevitably, politics and economics have intruded because of the current situation. Certainly, I am as guilty as anyone in that regard.
However, I think you will see that a well photographed coin and the chance to use our grading skills inevitably gets us back into a focus on numismatics. Coins are not on my mind, but I enjoy intellectual give and take with knowledgeable people who are willing to debate an issue and avoid attacking the character or reputation of their opponents. One can learn a lot by carefully considering an informed opponent's point of view. This is especially relevant to those who are in the process of buying and selling coins and bullion.
I am not sure that politics or economics can be avoided when discussing coins because money is a political act and money is the nexus upon which an economy is based. Only so much enthusiasm can be generated by discussions of numismatic art or rarity. Besides, our Mint has been woefully lacking in artistic accomplishment of late! LOL
