Is there a website that lists total mintage numbers for US coins? I'm thinking about Gold Buffalo 1OZ Proofs and Gold Buffalo Proof 4 coin sets in particular but a site with broader coverage would be appreciated.

Why are the mintage numbers important?
I could list several reasons but for me it's mostly curiosity. I see coins (buffalos) being sold on eBay claiming "low mintage" among other things. Being able to verify the sellers claims would be helpful. Are there a commonly accepted definitions for low mintage?

Follow this link, you will find there the most recent numbers:

For older coins, I refer to the Red Book.

The US Mint lists mintage numbers for some of the American Eagle coins here:
http://usmint.gov/mint_programs/american_eagles/index.cfm?action=am...

And circulating coin production figures here:

For recent or still available coins, the weekly Mint Stats on Numismaster are the best. (linked by Fish74)
Thanks for the responses.

Just a side note, the Royal Canadian Mint is listing the mintage for all their gold coins and silver coins.

Silver coins: http://www.mint.ca/store/buy/silver_coins-cat120006

I totally think US mint should be more transparent on this.

I always look at mintages before i buy a coin!! I guess the right thing to do is just buy everything you can no matter how much money you lose???

These 2 sites also have some mintage numbers and other information on a lot of coins:

How about the latest red book
