U.S. Mint Releases Full Schedule...Still No Proof Eagles

I just checked online at the Mint's website, and they have released their release schedule through winter 09. They still have no release date for gold or silver proof eagles. The silver proof set, and gold spouse dollars are still being released it appears. It's gonna look silly if I have a gap in my silver proof eagle collection!

I also noticed this and will probably do a post about it on Mint News Blog.

Last year one of the US Mint's memorandums included the following statement:

"We are not using incoming supplies of silver blanks to produce numismatic versions of these coins (American Eagle Silver Proof and Uncirculated Coins); all incoming inventory is being used solely for silver bullion coins..."

The US Mint continues to ration sales of the bullion Silver Eagles. Is the implication of the statement above that they will not make any Proof or Uncirculated "W" Silver Eagles as long as there is unmet demand for the bullion version?

I don't understand this at all. The mint produces 10 million bullion Silver Eagles a year. They are also planning on up to 500,000 Lincoln Silver Dollars and the same for the Louis Braille Silver Dollar. I don't see why the Mint couldn't allocate 500,000 blanks for both the Proof Silver Eagle and the Uncirculated "W" version....and I don't care about some "LAW or Bill" that dictates the Mint must provide "bullion" SAE as demand requires. They ought to be able to spread it around....I'm sure they make more money on the "collectable coins". It's just BS.

It would be a shame if the mint didn't produce these collector coins in 2009. I feel the decision to drop the fractional platinum & buffalo coins is due to the fact the first spouse coins are mandated by law and the platinum & buffalo coins weren't. Most of the first spouse coins are ugly & I can't see very many people collecting them in the future.

For what it's worth I went on the US Mint website and checked tob see about subscriptions and you can still sign up for subscriptions to both coins (silver eagle proof and uncirculated). Both subscriptions state that your subscription will start with the 2009 coin. I guess at least they still have plans to release them.

You will need to keep a watchful eye on both as they may both have very limited runs

I have a subscription for 5 each of the Silver proof and uncirculated Eagles - I think that would be one way to guarantee getting them in case of a limited run - subscribe. They auto-ship when released.

Great idea/strategy
