So today's the day my second order of Lincoln dollars are "supposed" to ship. I ordered these a couple days before the price increase. I ordered 4 proof (in stock) and 4 unc (backordered). So I check my email. There's an message from the Mint with the subject Backordered! The uncs are pushed back to 4/16. So I go to look at My Account on the Mint web site. Of course it still showing today as the expected ship date. :(

Next, I check my Braille order. Got one of each and one silver proof quarter set. Well It was supposed to ship 4/1, but received an email 3/28(?) saying that the order would be backordered to 4/16. I look at the order and now all are in stock. Hmm... maybe will ship sooner than later. :) Wishful thinking.

Now I'm getting brave. I got my UHR 3/10, book on backorder. I open my order info and what to I see? The book has shipped. Yippie! wait... it shipped... yesterday? I check the tracking number. UPS was at my house this morning, but nobody was there to sign for it; they will try again. Hope they left a notice so I can make arraignments to pick it up at UPS, maybe tonight. If not, I'll get it Monday.

It shouldn't be this frustrating.

FAQ #35 asks:

Question: Where is my order?
Answer: If your order contains only collectibles that are "in stock," we will process your order within 7 business days. Depending on your choice of shipping options, please allow approximately 1-2 weeks. If you've ordered products that are in "back ordered" status, your order may take longer than our standard processing and shipping time.

But I, like you, know this to be yet another PBGS lie. I have one order that has been "in stock and reserved" for 24 business days now (5 weeks). The items have never been anything but "in stock and reserved" so there is no excuse for not shipping them. In truth, there is no viable excuse for taking any longer than two business days to ship in stock items. In most cases, in stock items should ship no later than the end of the first business day following the order placement. Unfortunately, even their ludicrous claim that it might take seven business days to ship in stock items is too much for PBGS to handle. I checked my recent orders and it looks like orders are running at their historical pace of about 11,000 per business day so there is not any sort of overburden that should be slowing things down. I think PBGS way underbid to get the contract and they are now holding us hostage until the mint agrees to pay more money to get things moving. Clearly, this new practice of "pre-charging" credit cards (charging, then letting that charge expire, shipping then charging again) has something to do with getting more money out of the mint (perhaps PBGS gets a fixed fee every time they charge a credit card, so they are making that they do that at least twice per order).

FAQ #69 reads:

Question: When will my credit card be charged?
Answer: The United States Mint will charge your credit card as items are shipped from our distribution center. Charges will include only those items being shipped, plus shipping and handling. You will only be charged for shipping and handling once per order for destinations within the United States of America and its territories, even if we must ship items separately because of availability.

So, PBGS is not supposed to charge until items actually ship.

What I think I'm noticing is that folks ordering large quantities are getting their products first. The big sellers on ebay have hundreds for sale already graded, and I have to wait for my little ole order of 1; for 5 to 6 weeks on my last 2 orders. PBGS isn't filling orders by FIFO, their going by $$$$.
I am aggrevated as well. The UHR fiasco was a nightmare. I did get my Lincoln silver dollars in a timely manner though. I am patiently waiting for my 5 sets of P & D Lincoln pennys. They have been "In stock and reserved" for about 10 days now. An authorization was obtained on my credit card but has long since expired. Has anyone reading this that ordered the penny rolls received theirs yet? All the auctions I see on ebay are auctions that say they will ship when received from the Mint. I am wondering if any of these 2 roll sets have shipped yet.
I don't know of anyone that has yet to have received their rolls. Just be happy you ordered them!

I was looking at my Lincoln cent order (just to see if the projected order date had been changed) and I noticed that the option to cancel my order is not an option. On all of my previous orders, I had a few days, if not weeks to change my mind and I could just check the cancel box. On this order that I placed just yesterday the boxes to cancel are not there. Not that I want to cancel, I just thought it was interesting.

Hello Neal, When did you place your order? Mine was placed at 12:22pm yesterday, 22 minutes after they went on sale. My sister ordered at 12:28, 28 minutes after they went on sale. My brother ordered last night at 7:00pm and all three of our orders still have the cancel box. I have a sister out in Seattle and she got her order in before mine but she is not available right now for me to have her check her order. All 3 of ours were scheduled to ship 5/29 and my brothers order from last night originally had a ship date of 7/13 but has since been changed to 6/29. Keep us posted. Bob
My order was placed @ 12:24 5/14/09.
Mint site still has a shipping date of 5/29, The cancel box is still there, not that I will use it.
Only the US goverment can run a business this way and stay in business!
FUBAR!
The Mint operates swift as a rabbit when you don't want it to do that. I placed an order for 500 $1 2007 Washington coins on May 10,2009. On the 11th, it was indicated the order was on hold. On the 12th I wanted to change the credit card number. But my cancel option was gone with a new status of in process. On the 13th it was indicated as shipped with a tracking number. On the a.m. of the 14th I got a call from UPS saying they had a delivery which required a signature and it would be delivered that morning. Around 11:00 a.m., UPS handed me a box on overnight delivery, which weighed about ten pounds. The delivery cost was paid by the mint. So instead of paying the mint's standard charge of $4.95, I got 1% cash back from my credit card or $5. If you want a dollar for ninety-nine cents, this is the best deal in town.
Hi Neal,
I believe this is part of the security changes...if you have a registered account on the mint website and used it to check out then you get a cancel box. If you ordered as a guest, then you have to call them to cancel.

Probably has a lot to do with Ed Moy trying to save his own behind.
Lincoln Comm Dollars sold out while my order was in stock and reserved.
Only ordered 2 proofs and 3 unc. Ordered 03/25/09 both went in stock and reserved then showed shipping dates, the proofs were supposed to ship before the unc's, seemed biweekly the shipping dates would move out further. And, all this time I could not cancel my orders so I assumed they were just waiting to go from shelf to ship with my name on them. Well, the 2 proofs shipped and the uncs expecting ship date had passed so I expected them to also ship soon.
Well, suprise E=Mail from the Mint last week informed me the uncs had sold out and I would not be getting my Uncs!!? Luckily I got my proofs at least but, I favor uncs.
Thats very misleading status information and bad business, What happened to my order that was reserved? Did the Mint, as alluded to in other blogs, sell them to the bigger orders...and ran out on little ol-me? Frustrating.
I just checked my mint order for the new pennies. I ordered on 5/14/09 @ 12:24. My order had a shipped of 5/29/09 but has changed to 7/15/09. My girlfriend ordered at the same time and her ship date has changed as well. Anyone else have this happen? I really think the mint has some serious issues and they start at the top of the chain of command.Something's got to give. Dam good thing Ed Moy doesn,t run a hospital.
