Permalink Reply by Gary on January 24, 2012 at 11:48pm This is a Collector Site....there is no such thing as junk coins in my collection!! Try Craigslist!! What happened to the tight budget??
Permalink Reply by justin smith on January 25, 2012 at 12:00am still pretty tight. tried craigslist, but eveyone who contacts me is a collector and like you does not consider anything they have as junk.
but unlike you maybe some collectors roll search and may have several pre 64 of the same kind of coin like, 5 1964 half dollars. and/or a lot of coins they have found many that are so worn out they dont consider them to be valuable other than the silver, witch if it is not a key date and it is badly worn out or scratched up, they dont want to add that ugly coin to their collection.
therefore, I am offering people as i just described a chance to sell their finds in, maybe roll searching, a chance to sell them for the value of the coin vs. what cash for gold places will pay them like half of what its worth.
If you dont fit into this catagory and value all your coins i respect that, and thats great for you. Me on the other hand, I am just trying to get some silver coins for an good price. And believe it or not there are people who fit into the catagory i just describe.
thanks for the reply, Good luck with your collection
Permalink Reply by Indentured Servant on January 26, 2012 at 1:31am I understand your goals. Perhaps your request might be better received if posted in the more appropriate Precious Metals forum rather than the US Coin forum? I'm not saying you will get more responses there but at least you will be on topic. Based on my experience here, most posters seem to be well aware of the value of silver and more importantly, the need to hold on to it or accumulate more. You will likely have much better luck on Craigslist. Post in the proper category and get creative with your ad titles.

This is the wrong venue for soliciting silver. Most people on here are collectors, experts, and might have an idea or two, but they would probably keep most of the good ideas to themselves, lol! Go to churches and offer them twice the face value of anything you might want that they have. Make friends with the tellers at you town's banks, and see if they will help. Although most of them are already hip to the value, but it's worth a try. I made $500 last Summer at Little Ceasars, when the counter person have several rolls of silver quarters in her cash drawer, and I bought them for face value, but that's a one in a million situation, but it does happen. Good luck.
Permalink Reply by justin smith on January 31, 2012 at 4:32pm thanks guys. i have tried craigslist but i live in such a small town so far away from any good size town, o well guess i will just keep trying my luck at the local banks even though it hasnt been that great
Permalink Reply by Lureuin on January 31, 2012 at 5:57pm Take a day and all your cash to the nearest big city with a coin shop that buys silver. They will have buckets full of "junk" silver coins of every denomination. Most have a grade of vg or lower, and will be sold to you in bulk for spot price. You are doing them a favor, as they will pay more to send them in to melt companies.
Permalink Reply by Indentured Servant on January 31, 2012 at 8:25pm Not a bad idea Lureuin but I'd call ahead if you are looking for junk. All of the shops I frequent on a regular basis have been out or very short on junk for a few months now. After the two price smashes last year very few are selling. Once prices come up though it should be more common.
