Lincoln Coin and Chronicles Set
I have some information on the 5 Coin Lincoln Set that a lot of people have been eagerly awaiting. Up until now, we have known that the set would include the 2009 Proof Lincoln Commemorative and four 2009 Proof Lincoln Cents in a composition of 95% copper. The set will actually have a few more goodies included.
Still no date announced for start of sales. The price should be $55.95.

The United States Mint Lincoln Coin & Chronicles Set includes a proof Lincoln Commemorative Silver Dollar and four proof 2009-dated one-cent coins in a brown textured, leather-like package. The one-cent coins are from the 2009 Lincoln Bicentennial One Cent Program in 95 percent copper. The reverse of each coin reflects four different designs, each one representing a different aspect, or theme, of the life of President Lincoln. All of the coins are encased in clear protective capsules, allowing the coins to be removed from the packaging for inspection if desired.
Also included in this set are a reproduction of the Gettysburg address, an image of Abraham Lincoln, and a certificate of authenticity. A reproduction of Abraham Lincoln’s signature is printed in gold foil below his picture. A matching hardcover slipcase protects the product.
By the way, please forgive my absence from the forums for the past few weeks. My wife works in the tax industry and had to work late hours, resulting in much more babysitting for me to do. This combined with some other personal commitments kept me pretty swamped.

This set sounds incredible! This set should give collectors something to look forward to in the near future. I wonder if The Mint will somehow screw this up as well...Such negativity!

Thanks for the update.....I look forward to this set as do most of us.
What would make this set even better would be the inclusion of a "wheat" cent and the "memorial", giving us a more complete set. I have a 1955 Proof Set, and if you have never seen a Proof wheat cent, it is a really gorgeous coin.
I imagine there will be a limit of one per household on this set...I just hope to get one!

Thanks for the update. That sounds like an awesome set. Any idea what the purchase limit will be? I am thinking one or two per household. Originally it was listed as a "Summer" release, assuming that is the case and based on where it was listed I suspect it will come out around the forth of July. I can't wait, just hope I can get my hands on one!

Michael, Do you know how many they intend on making? Is it still the 50,000 even though they oversold the individual Proof and Uncirculated Lincoln Commems? Thanks for finding out the info you already have but I was just wondering if you knew these other things. Thanks, BRYAN

I am very much looking forward to this set. I agree that it would be a totally kick ass set if they reproduced the wheat and memorial proofs in 95% copper for this set. Lets see if the mint can get these shipped out before Christmas.

The numbers for the individual Lincoln commemoratives have been corrected by the Mint since then, so there should be 50,000 available.

Thank you Michael for the information! The demand for this set will be outstanding. And the $55.95 price is actually rather low compared with the price of buying the Abraham Lincoln Proof Coin on the secondary market since it sold out at the Mint.

I need some advice.
I am a relatively new coin collector. I missed the chance to buy the US mint-wrapped 2009 P & D Lincoln "log cabin" pennies. Right now they are selling on eBay from about $70 - $100. The same bank-rolled wrapped pennies are selling for about $5 - $8 per roll.
Do you think I should wait for the hoopla around these US mint-wrapped pennies to die down and the price will fall? Or do you think that they will hold their values? Considering their mintages, it seems likely there will be plenty to go around in the months ahead.
Should I buy the mint-wrapped 2009 P & D Lincoln pennies now, wait, or not at all?

Well… for me… I bought a couple of the two roll sets from the Mint. I didn’t purchase them with the intent of flipping them right away but I do sell on Ebay. I don’t mind taking advantage of an opportunity so my plan now is to sell them on Ebay when I get them, then I plan on buying them back at some point down the road for a fraction of what I sold them for. I don’t see how this “irrational exuberance” can last. $100 for $1’s worth of “non-numismatic” modern coins with a mintage in the hundreds of millions is absurd. The only thing numismatic about these coins is the paper wrapper they come in. But if people want them, then I’ll feed their frenzy.

I was also wondering if the set is still limited to 50,000. And if there will be a one per household limit. Do you guys think we are going to have to be on-line waiting the very second that these go on sale to get a set?

I think these will sell out the first day. So I would make a point to get to the mint site as soon as possiblr after they go on sale.
