Ok,,heres the deal.
I went to the flea market today, and I was targetting certain Canadian 50 cent pieces..like the 1999P, and other 50 cent pieces that were only released in proof like or RCM gift card sets. I collect Canadian coins and I toss and turn at night when I have loose ends in my collection like that.
Well, one seller had a number of the ones I was after, but he wouldn't budge on the price even when his total asking price was 95 dollars. I asked him if he would shave it a bit and he basically replied no. Even in the interest of developing his customer base, he wouldn't hear of it. Im amazed..he knows it was the 1st time I was ever been to his set-up, and he still wouldn't budge. It was over priced based on trends..needless to say that's it for him with me. (BTW There was absolutley no traffic there what so ever).
Anyways, I went to this other seller and asked him for the 1999P, and he didn't have the single but, he did have the proof-like set for 35 dollars which was the exact same price the other dealer had the single listed for. I thought perfect, I can open up the set, and get my 50 cent peice from there
I didn't know this until i saw the set, but this 1999P prooflike set also contained a test token. I ended up buying it anyway. My question is, what would you do, jeopardize the integrity of the set, and take out the 50 cent piece, or don't do it..as there are more advantages of leaving the set as is, and just continue with my hunt.
Thanks for the assistance

If the set had a split in the packaging,I would take the coins out & put them in coin flips (P.V.C.-free,of course!),otherwise,I would leave the set together.
I came across a Canadian 1987 set with a split pocket a few years back,so I was able to get it,& I took the coins out - especially for the 1987 50 Cents & nickel Voyageur 1 Dollar,& put them in clip-top bags.
I don't have any coins with the 'P' plating mark prior to 2001.

Permalink Reply by Martin on January 22, 2011 at 8:05pm Okee dokee guys..Im convinced. Leave well enough alone. Packaging and outer envelope are pristine. Ive got all the other P mint mark circulating coins for 1999 already so it was just this one I was after.
I collect PL sets..I presently got an example of every year from 1960 to date (some years there are more than one variety) so this one will fit in well.
Its off to the hunt again to find a single 1999P 50 cent that can be included in my collection right in between the 1998, and the 2000P

Which 1998 50 Cents are you referring to - the 'ordinary' 1998 or the 1998W?
It was thanks to you that I have the 1998W 50 Cents in my collection.
Aidan.
