Today I went by a display of quarters which some collector framed. It was in an ordinary (not high end) antique shop.
1853 P VF with arrows and rays
1854 P VF with arrows
1857 P VF
1907 P G
1908 O G
1914 P G
1914 P VG
1926 P F
1926 P F
1927 P F
Plus three common quarters, worth .25 each.
Price was $50, but I talked them down to $45.
By my math, with silver worth 22.2x face or better (that's what I got on Wed when I sold some of my common date coins) I got some nice coins for well below bullion prices.
Based on current ebay prices, the first three coins alone are worth $70.

Permalink Reply by 3rdStooge on February 26, 2011 at 9:26pm Congratulations Bill, since retirement, I spend time at all the re-sale shops in my neighborhood. Sometimes I hit gold, so to speak and beat all the other retirees to the punch. The treasures I sell on Ebay.
So far, none of the middle class around here have decided to turn loose of their coin collections.
Maybe I can have more luck with aluminum cans along the highway!.
Permalink Reply by Buffalo on February 27, 2011 at 5:25pm Wow. You did terrific. I was fortunate, as I don't know key dates and values in many series. In this case, I was paying less than bullion prices, which made it easy. You knew the value of what you were looking at, and it paid off Maybe I should carry a coin book when I shop.
Congrats, that's a wonderful find.
