Coin Network - Coin Collecting Social Network

I received my ATB set from Coins-N-Things today.

The coins are VERY nice looking...3 PL and 2 DMPL MS67-69 (I'm basing this on other graded coins I have in hand to compare to)

Their sales receipt for $1100 was broken down like this:

ATB set ........$858.00

90% Pre-1965 coins $175.00

Shipping/processing  $67.00

I really didn't know what to expect I'd get from the pre-1965 90% silver coins...I expected a lot of 1964 quarters and half dollars.

CNT said you would get $6.00 in face value of these coins..

I received 12 Barber Half Dollars dated from 1901-1911 and included coins from Philadelphia, New Orleans, Denver and San Francisco.

Yes, they are probably VG-8 or F-12...the dates are very clear...and the reeded edges are pretty smooth, but I'm very happy to have these old half dollars.

In conclusion, I'm very happy with the quality of the ATB coins...but as everyone should realize by now, you can not judge what your set will look like just based on the AP it came from. It's really a crap shoot....every AP has had great looking sets and some not as nice.

I got mine this week too - just picked them up a couple days ago since I was on vacation when they first arrived.  I hadn't previously seen any of these coins in person, so I didn't know what to expect.  I was definitely very impressed by the overall appearance - size, detail, weight, etc.

I was dissapointed in the condition though.  As I said, I hadn't seen any in person, and I know they are bullion so they had been tubed together and handled, but so many people are raving about the condition of their sets that I was hoping for better.  There are some noticeable marks around the outside perimeter of the coins where (presumably) the next coin in the stack was rubbing on them.  At least one coin has a small knick in one of the edges where it looks like it has been banged by something and deformed.  A small scratch here and there in the fields.  Most dissapointing were marks on two of the obverses on GW's neck/face area (one a pretty deep scratch, another a large 'scuff' mark of wear).

Maybe these are common occurances.  I have no experience with graded coins, nor had I seen any of the ATB coins in person before, so maybe my expectations were just too lofty for these bullion pieces.  Maybe I'll post some pictures later.
