I just received this email from the US mint:

"Greetings from the United States Mint.
Thank you for ordering from the United States Mint.
We regret to inform you that the item(s) listed below
are currently sold out. A customer service representative
will be happy to assist you in finding an alternative item."

Has anyone else received this?  This is from a subsrciption order going back some time.  I sure hope it's in error.  Craig

Yes, I just got it today. I have a subscription for the SAEs and first got a backorder notice on 11/8 , which I believe is 11 days before there were placed on sale to the general public. I checked the Mint's website and there is no posted production limit for the coin.

I have to agree that something's not right here!
I just checked another of my subscription orders for the Mt. Hood 2-roll set and it also was canceled, stating the item is no longer available? Yet the set is listed as ready to go on sale on 11/15/10.

What in blazes is going on here???
For some reason, PBGS decided to enter subscription orders into the system two weeks before the coins are set to go on sale. They have been in the habit of doing this two days ahead for some time now, ever since we called them to task on the promise that subscription orders are supposed to be the first ones entered. I believe that this decision to change from two days to two weeks was not properly researched and that they have run afoul of daemons in the ordering system that automatically send out back order notices and ones that cancel attempts to enter orders before products officially go on sale. Everything was fine at two days, the software evidently had some leeway built in but this shift to a two week lead caused the system to come to action and send out backorder notices for stale orders and then to spot items being ordered before they are supposed to be and it started cancelling them because that is mint policy:

"To ensure that all members of the public have fair and equal access to United States Mint products, any order placed prior to the official on-sale date and time of November 19, 2010, 12:00 Noon (ET) shall not be deemed accepted by the United States Mint and will not be honored."

I think that PBGS outsmarted itself and is now paying the price for lazyness and is having to reinstate all of the cancelled orders and find out how to disable the processes that backorder and cancel. Frankly, I was bothered when they started the two day thing specifically because of the above policy. All in all, another PBGS bungle. They will blame it on the computers, but the computers are doing exactly what they were told to do. This is PBGS's fault.
What a mess! I just got the "sold Out" notice for my Mt. Hood subscription order. I sure hope they fix this mess, otherwise their entire subscription system will be useless...
It looks like the system stepped in and cancelled a couple hundred thousand orders, all because someone wanted to do things a little different this time. When things aren't working at all, they do nothing and hope it fixes itself. When everthing is going along fine, the can't resist the urge to fix it.
I RECEIVED THE SAME NOTICE ON TWO ORDERS THAT THE 2010 PROOF ASE WERE SOLD OUT, MY REPLY TO MR. MOY,AND THE US MINT, WAS TO CANCEL MY ACCOUNT WITH THE US MINT !EVIDENTLY, THE MINT HAS FILLED THE ORDERS FROM DEALERS, BEFORE GIVING THE COLLECTORS ANY CHANCE OF GETTING THESE COINS ? IN THAT CASE THEY CAN TAKE THOSE 2010 PROOFS AND SHOVE THEM WHERE THE SUN DOESN'T SHINE ! IF THE DEALERS THINK I'M GOING TO PURCHASE THEM AT THEIR INFLATED PRICES, I HAVE NEWS FOR THEM ? I HAVE COLLECTED FOR YEARS FROM THE MINT, AND THAT STOPS TODAY. THEY CAN CONTINUE FILLING THE ORDERS OF DEALERS ON EVERY ITEM THE MINT OFFERS. I WILL START COLLECTING FROM CANADA, OR OTHER COUNTRY'S THAT DEAL FAIRLY WITH COLLECTORS AT LOWER PRICES !
Hi!,
So far, I've received cancellation notices for the ASE, Mt. Hood two roll set, and the 2009 D.C./Territories Silver sets. The latter were ordered when they went back on sale and I have an order confirmation stating "in process". I called the Mint early last evening to inquire about the Mt. Hood cancellation which I noticed accidentally, when I was checking my other orders. According to their operator, they had had no prior notice of what they termed a "glitch" in their system. The glitch then spread to the ASEs as well. Now my '09 silver territories are cancelled, too. I don't know how they are going to reinstate all the orders. Good luck, Larry

These coins will not sell out before the initial offering date. This is unfair and is why the U.S. Mint will not sell a coin one second before the coin is advertised to go on sale. They make you hang up and call again. This applies to the subcription service as well. If you want the coin, I suggest you pick up the phone and call the first day it goes on sale!

I just spoke with a US mint representative, and she told me someone screwed up and they are looking into the issue. ALL subscritptions will be filled! One more piece of information, I was told there will be a firm limit of 750,000 of the ASE's. I am not sure how this compares with previous years, (yes I know no 2009's), but I can't wait to get mine! The US rep also said she have just physically handled a Mary Todd Lincoln first spouse coin and said it was beautiful. (I hope I don't get this "handled" coin). Hang in there guys. We will get our ASE's!
Wow Hope they get this under control. I was disappointed this afternoon after getting a sold out letter, now this. I feel better but not really overjoyed. I got this at 7:13 tonight.

Dear United States Mint Customer,
On Wednesday, November 10, 2010, The United States Mint sent email notifications out to customers notifying them that some backordered and subscription items were canceled. This was an error. We are diligently
working on a resolution to this issue.

We sincerely apologize for the confusion and inconvenience this may have caused.

The is the exact same mintage limit that the U.S. Mint always uses for this coin. It is not unusual. Many other proof issues are much rarer and did not sell out in their years of issue.

After reading all the reply's on this subject about the cancellations of the 2010 proof ASE's, and reading Michael Zielinski's reply on this subject,of which he had no solid answer ,as he states, his request for comments from the mint, have not been answered, leeds me to believe nothing has been resolved ? I'm sticking my neck out and betting that the Mint has done this, due to the recent increases in the price of silver, and as if they are not charging us enough for these ASE's that by cancelling all orders, they can re-introduce the coins again with a new price, as if we are not being hosed enough by the Mint That's my bet? and hopefully we will be notified Officially, from the Mint soon ! The Mint has had ample time to issue an Official retraction, but instead elected to have their ordering clerks, tell the public that there has been a computer glitch ? How many times have we had such errors, from the Mint, under Mr Moy's watch, without any response ? They need to privatize the Mint, and perhaps, some needed changes could be made !
