I keep on reading about the low mintage on the 2009 nickels and dimes. Besides keeping the 2008 coins . Is there any other key dates to watch out for on ROOSEVELT NICKELS AND JEFFERSON NICKELS ?

I went to 2 banks yesterday and asked for any coin with a 2009 date. All they had were presidential dollars.
I live in a small town and the tellers told me that all new currency is delivered to the bigger banks in the larger cities and trickel down from there. I don't really buy that story tho.I've have had better luck asking the clerks at the local convenience stores in my area. I used to get rolls of the state quarters that way. They all are in the H R String & Son wraps.
I probably received about 5 rolls of quarters that way but no luck so far this year.
I have checked one of my local banks here and got about 10 rolls of the first Lincoln 2009 penny, and a roll of Harrison dollars, but depite going there now four times, I have been unable to pick up any rolls of dimes, nickles, or quarters in the 2009 denominations.
john w they are clear wraped obw rolls!
I live about 30 miles SE of Raleigh,NC. North Carolina is either the 2nd or 3rd largest banking state behind NY. I have been to all the major US banks in Raleigh. All the large regional banks in Raleigh and all the small regional/local banks in Raleigh and have not found the 1st roll of 2009 pennies, nickels or dimes. I did find one bank yesterday that had the Puerto Rica quarters, which I did not want. Matter of fact, I have been home about ten minutes from being in Raleigh(sometimes me, Barney, Aunt Bea and Opie go there) and I did come across a very nice teller at a Wachovia branch that actually took my name and telephone number and said she would call me if they get any. She said she is expecting some pennies next week but has yet to see any rolled 2009 nickels or dimes. I'll buy her a beer if she comes throug.
Here’s the question I have… How does someone know a roll contains only 2009 coins if they don’t see it come straight out of a box marked with year and denomination? The Mint or Fed stated that many of the 2009 coins were going to be mixed in with coins of other years when they reached the distribution channels.
The only ones that you will likely find in rolls will be from the government. By looinkg at the roll, you should be able to tell that they are not mixed just like the Lincoln pennies.

I’ve got rolls of quarters that came straight from the new box that I know are all the same. I’ve got other rolls that came from the bank that are mixed. They all come in the exact same looking N. E. String & Son wrappers. Some people are getting rolls from banks.

If buying the Mint wrapped coins it’s a no-brainer. But when getting rolls from a bank, eBay or elsewhere, how does one know they don’t simply have a roll that has a 2009 coin on the end(s)?

Has anyone considered asking a bank to request rolls of new coins for you from the Federal Reserve? There was an article in coins.about.com mentioning this. I went around to the banks in the San Francisco financial district and could find only one who knew how to do this. But the minimum order is $2000 and there is no guarantee the Federal Reserve will honor the request for new coins. Seems like a big gamble. What if all you get is $2000 of circulated crap?

The writer of the article said she was planning to get and sit on 500 rolls of nickels and 250 rolls of dimes. She never mentioned whether she was successful or not.

I might try to do this in the fall when hopefully I'll be able to get some of the later Territories quarters thrown in as well. But I'd really like to hear about actual experiences with this process.
