Permalink Reply by Lureuin on December 17, 2010 at 5:15pm I have set aside the entire Satin set run. Thanks US Mint for allowing the value to now start to increase.
Permalink Reply by Clair Alan Hardesty on December 18, 2010 at 11:49am I honestly don't think that discontinuance of the satin finish will have any effect on the value of the existing coins. They were produced in such volumes that they will never become rareties. My only hope is that the mint returns to the practice of putting regular production business strike coins in the uncirculated sets and doesn'r start minting some sort of special brilliant coin. If they use special die and planchets and the same presses and forces used to mint the satin finish coins and only change the finish then very high grade business strikes will lose all numismatic value because there will be no way to tell SMS from very high grade business strikes but the latter will be much rarer. This would be stupid, which is why I am afraid the mint might do it.
Permalink Reply by Ike on December 18, 2010 at 2:38pm Hi Clair; Don't you think that the number of cent collectors (of the Lincoln cent) as there are, that the only satin finish shield cent demand will out-strip the supply. The first year 2010 ATB quarters will also be the only satin finish ATB quarters produced. I just don't know. I guess only time will tell, but I do value your opinion & have taken your advice @ times.
